काटने से पहले ये पांच checks करें
Saree को daylight में पूरा फैलाएं. फिर check करें:
- tears, stains और पतले हिस्से कहाँ हैं?
- border और pallu की condition कैसी है?
- fabric मजबूत है या खींचने पर टूट रहा है?
- saree की कोई family या emotional value है?
- नई चीज वास्तव में इस्तेमाल होगी?
अगर saree खास याद से जुड़ी है, तो काटने से पहले family से पूछें. Full saree की अच्छी photos भी रख लें.
पुरानी saree से क्या बना सकते हैं?
1. Straight kurta
Cotton, silk-blend और printed saree से straight kurta बन सकता है. Border को sleeve या hem पर रखें. Tailor से पहले pattern layout बनवाएं ताकि damage वाले हिस्से हट सकें.
2. Long skirt
Saree की width और fall skirt के लिए अच्छी हो सकती है. Heavy border नीचे रखने से shape मिलती है, लेकिन बहुत भारी border movement कम कर सकता है. Lining जरूरत के हिसाब से लगाएं.
3. Simple dress
Soft georgette, crepe या printed saree से wrap dress, A-line dress या kaftan-style dress बन सकता है. Slippery fabric के लिए experienced tailor चुनें.
4. Co-ord set
Plain या small-print saree से short kurta और pants, top और skirt या shirt और relaxed trousers बनाएं. पूरे set के लिए fabric कम हो तो एक piece solid fabric में रखें.
5. Dupatta
Pallu और border अच्छी condition में हों तो saree को dupatta में बदलना सबसे कम-risk reuse है. Edges finish करवाएं और जरूरत हो तो light lining या backing दें.
6. Blouse या ethnic jacket
Border, zari या embroidered pallu blouse front, sleeves या short jacket में काम आ सकता है. Delicate old silk के नीचे backing fabric लग सकती है.
7. Potli या small bag
छोटे मजबूत sections से potli, pouch या clutch cover बनाएं. Handle और lining नए मजबूत fabric से रखें.
8. Cushion covers
Printed cotton, brocade या silk panels cushion cover में अच्छे लगते हैं. सीधे skin contact और regular washing को देखकर lining तथा zip लगाएं.
9. Table runner या wall panel
Decorative pallu को table runner या framed wall textile बना सकते हैं. Food और direct sunlight से बचाने की जरूरत देखें.
10. Patchwork details
छोटे साफ हिस्सों को plain kurta, denim jacket, tote या quilt में patch की तरह लगाएं. पहले fabric की strength test करें.
Fabric के हिसाब से सही reuse चुनें

Care label हो तो उसी को follow करें. Label नहीं है और fabric की पहचान clear नहीं, तो छोटा hidden section test किए बिना पूरा कपड़ा न धोएं.
Tailor को क्या बताएं?
सिर्फ “इससे dress बना दें” न कहें. Reference photo, required length, sleeve, lining और wearable occasion बताएं. Saree पर chalk से damage और usable panels mark करें. Border कहाँ चाहिए, यह cutting से पहले तय करें.
Tailor से पूछें:
- pattern saree में fit होगा?
- seam allowance कितना रहेगा?
- lining चाहिए?
- border का वजन design पर क्या असर डालेगा?
- बचा fabric वापस मिलेगा?
नया garment बनाने से पहले look कैसे check करें?
Saree को शरीर पर उस shape के करीब fold करें जो बनवानी है. Kurta के लिए pallu को front panel की तरह रखें, skirt के लिए waist पर wrap करें और jacket के लिए shoulder पर drape करें. Photos लेकर compare करें.

कब saree को नहीं काटना चाहिए?
- fabric folds पर टूट रहा हो
- zari बहुत झड़ रही हो
- saree की पहचान या value समझे बिना decision हो रहा हो
- family heirloom हो और अनुमति न हो
- intended garment के लिए fabric पर्याप्त न हो
- tailor ने pattern layout नहीं दिखाया हो
ऐसी saree को preserve, repair, donate या textile specialist से assess करवाना बेहतर हो सकता है.

पुरानी silk saree से suit बन सकता है?
हाँ, अगर fabric मजबूत है. Fold lines, underarm area और zari पहले check करें. Lining और backing की जरूरत tailor बताएगा.
एक saree से पूरा co-ord set बनेगा?
Design, size और saree की usable length पर निर्भर है. Fabric कम हो तो top saree से और bottom matching solid fabric से बनाएं.
खराब pallu का क्या करें?
अगर कुछ हिस्से ठीक हैं तो small patch, pocket या accessory बन सकता है. बहुत कमजोर fabric को stress वाले हिस्से में न लगाएं.
